So many people set goals but seem to experience difficulties in achieving many of them. Then there are people who have lost the ability to create dreams because they have been disappointed one too many times in life. Living without goals leads to a life without direction. This feeling of being stuck causes perpetual frustration and an inherent unhappiness that affects our everyday attitude and mood. It’s time to close the gap between your results lf today with what you want in your life.
There are so many tools that promise the road to happiness and success that it has become confusing for many people. It almost seems as though people are running around like chickens with no head as they desperately grasp at whatever brings fulfillment. It’s so critical to be focused. The reality is that ALL those methods are good, e.g. positive affirmations, gratitude exercises, positive thoughts, vision boards, reading books, etc… But is it really as simple as “thinking” your way to your potential, to your success?
Unfortunately, it is not quite that easy. Our paradigms can be roadblocks in our path that keep us stuck in old patterns and inhibit us from getting the results we strive for. So what are paradigms? They are a set of habits that guide every move you make. They affect the way you eat, the way you walk, even the way you talk. They govern your communication, your work habits, your successes and your failures.
One of the major factors that controls our thoughts is our paradigms, our deep-rooted beliefs. The emotions that are triggered when we are operating within a negative paradigm trump our ability to reason or see things from an open perspective. Most of the time, we don’t even realize what is happening because we are in autopilot. This is the main reason why many people say certain things, think they mean it, have all the right intentions but in the end, their actions contradict what they said
1. Understand how the mind works
Let’s imagine your mind as a computer. The Operating System is comprised of your paradigms and is the system on which your mental processes run. Paradigms are your mental programs that have almost exclusive control over your patterns of behavior or your habits. These programs are always running in the background and acts as your autopilot.
That is why we fall victim to not being able to achieve what we want. Just “wanting” it more is not enough to get us unstuck, it just gets us more frustrated. Simple willpower doesn’t guarantee us success but understanding the motivating factor behind our behavior, our actions and our decisions is the key. It is acknowledging what and why something is not working before being able to change it.
Just as computers need regular updates in order to mitigate flaws, enhance security and constantly develop features make life easier for users, people, like computers, need to be cognizant of flaws and keep learning about self. This learning is done through personal development and the benefit is continued empowerment.
1. Healthy Perception
2. Being realistic doesn’t mean we have to be fearful of the negative. Thinking positive also doesn’t in any way mean denying whatever may be negative. There is a positive and negative aspect of every situation in life. That’s what we call polarity or duality. A healthy perception can only be achieved through an accurate pair of glasses where we are able to see all sides but we actually choose to proceed with the positive viewpoint. Paradigms dictate the way we view ourself, the world and situations. For example, people that are worry warts tend to be negative thinkers, regardless of how “positive” they believe themselves to be.
Part of our evolution includes a deep understanding that living the most peaceful life requires trust. It is a certain faith that everything will be fine if we remain open to what life has to offer us or teach us. We are all born with this belief until fears are imposed upon us as babies, toddlers and children. With fear comes the need to control our environment in protecting ourselves. We tend to lose trust in our own intuitive knowing which is what is meant to guide us in life.
The journey to finding that faith in ourselves is what personal development is all about. Faith based on a greater understanding and awareness of self will help you break through your fears and negative patterns. Blind faith is meaningless because it will crumble when you hit the first bump in your path. Life actually becomes simple when we are operating on positive paradigms.
